  • Gota Canal

    Gota Canal runs east-west in the south of Sweden and links up many natural lakes, rivers with artificial waterways. Commenced in 1800 and completed in 1832, Gota Canal is around 580km in length (including artificially excavated part of 87km). It starts from Goteborg in the West, passed through Goeta River, Lake Vanern, Lake Vattern, Lake Boren, Lake Roxen until it ends at Baltic Sea in the east. There are 58 sluices. The artificial part of the Canal is 15m in width and 5m in depth. It passed through many industrial towns, facilitates economic and transport communication and shortens the navigation distance from east to west by 370km.
