  • Suez Canal

Located on the west side of Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, Suez Canal stretches across Suez Isthmus and is between Port Said and al-Suways near Gulf of Suez in Red Sea, with total length of 163km. Suez Canal enabled south-west waterway transport between Europe and Asia without making detour to Cape of Good Hope on the south end of Africa, thus save a lot of voyage for ships. For one-way navigation from Port of London in UK or Port of Marseilles in France to Port of Bombay in India, a ship will save voyage of 43% and 56% respectively by Suez Canal than via Cape of Good Hope. Before the Suez Canal was cut through, people used to unload goods from boat and then transport between Mediterranean Sea to red sea by land.
